Soliloquy

Inspired by Gabrielle and occurring events in "A Comedy of Eros"

I remember how it was when I loved you.
The sun rose and set in your eyes
And all I could see was you.
It made all the difference
I wanted to laugh and
Dance and
Sing to the world
I found him! I found him!
I will never let him go.
Thank who or whatever was listening
For making me happy
So happy it scared me
And the fear made me even happier.
For that single moment
I didn't care what the world thought
I just wanted to be with you.
Watch the shadows from the trees
Fall on your face as you smiled
Listen to your heartbeat
Feel your breath warm my skin.
To hold you in my arms
And never let you go.
It was wild and uncontrollable and dangerous
But I never felt safer.
And I didn't know what I was doing
What was going on
And I loved it.
I loved you.
And then it was gone.
I was lost in you
Now lost without you
A ship on the sea with no land in sight
I didn't know what was going on
What I was doing
And it scared me
I could feel you drift away.
My heart screamed
I tried--oh, God, I tried, but
I didn't know what to do!
I let you go!
I let you go and never knew I had you!
Forgetting how it felt to feel this way
Build my soul up in walls of stone
It took love to break through.
But now I'm left
With a hole in my heart
And nothing to fill it.
Look at me the way I looked at you
Love me like you always have
And I never saw
Love me forever til I realize
The gods can give us nothing
That is not already in our hearts.
Don't let go.
